Do Lawn Tractors Have The Pulling Power To Pull A Small (17′) Boat Out Of The Water?
Boat has a 70 hp motor. Total pulling weight is approx 1300 lb. I need a new lawn tractor and I would like to be able to also use it for launching a boat at my house.

A 20hp would do it, maybe 14-16hp. I doubt anything smaller would, especially on a steep ramp.

The variables you have will determine if a lawn tractor will work. Gravel, grass, or dirt ramp? No. Paved ramp? Yes, if you can keep the front wheels on the ground because they will tend to rise up from the torque of the drive wheels turning. Providing you have the horsepower and theTRACTION available. Loose surface will just result in wheel spin. Manual or Automatic transmission? Manual will work in lowest gear. Automatic [hydrostatic] may just slip because it may be overburdened the way my John Deere L110 does. (17.5 hp.) Although I love my auto trans for mowing and snowblowing because of infinitely variable speed choices. How close to the water must you come with the drive wheels of the tractor? In the water? Forget it. Lawn tractors just don’t have the weight and traction for the job, but I’d love to try it myself just for giggles except my boat weighs 3200 lbs. Dave.

I’ve had several lawn tractors and the determining factor is going to be the traction. Without wheel weights, pulling that much on a wet surface is likely to just have spinning wheels. Even with weights, it’s iffy.
