To look for ideas for birthday parties, I like to do a yahoo images search and take ideas from other people’s parties! A lot of the ones I found for automobile parties have to do with the movie “Cars”, but there are lots of cute ideas! I like the picture in the link below – they decorated with boxes from motor oil and other car-related stuff.
You could hang airplanes from the ceiling with fishing line. And, a train (or cars) made out of big cardboard boxes (like refrigerator boxes and stove boxes) would be super fun for the kids to play in!
EDIT: You could also use his toys to decorate with – big dump trucks could make cute serving pieces for food!

For invitations, you could make 3-D wheels. Just find some cheap invites with a truck or car or something on it, and get some brads and construction paper. Cut yourself out some wheels and stick them on. Then your wheels will really move.
