Try 5W-30 or 10W-30 depending on how cold it gets when you use it. The thinner oil would be appropriate if you attach a plow to it and push snow in the winter.
SAE 10w 30 weight oil. Older L head engines, may have ran well on 30 weight oil. Newer overhead valve engines, that are tighter in design, need a multi viscosity oil.

Briggs, Tecumseh, and Kohler all recommend 30wt. above 32 degrees.
